ECHO is a citizen science project focusing on monitoring collectively the health of soils all around Europe. Accesible tools and training materials empower citizens to contribute to soil sampling. A user-friendly toolkit allows participation in a fundamental mission: understanding and supporting soil health.

Role in the team

As part of an interdisciplinary team, I was responsible for all creative work, such as the design of communication tools, training materials, video production and editing, and exhibition design for the GRASSI Museum Leipzig. We worked in constant exchange and placed great emphasis on co-creation and peer testing.

Project Aim

ECHO Soil: Engaging Citizens in Soil Science - The Road to Healthier Soils is a Horizon Europe project, a citizen science research project that began at the Competence Center for Plant Health at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano and involves 16 different partner organizations across Europe. Thanks to motivated ECHO ambassadors and, above all, citizen scientists, we are able to cover many locations across Europe and collect soil data on soil health. By 2027, ECHO plans to distribute 16,500 soil kits, which contain all the tools and instructions needed to analyze soil health.
